Swimmers Kate Stuart and John Salgado have been named Sprague High School Athlete’s of the week.
Coach Harrison noted that Kate has a string work ethic, is outstanding technically and is the first girl in the pool and the last out of it. She continues to improve as a swimmer and consistently sets PR’s for herself.
In addition to excellent practice habits and leadership, John Salgado was part of a record breaking 200M Freestyle relay team, setting the mark at 1:34.89.

Junior athlete, Spencer Plant, becomes Breakfast Club’s Athlete of the Week for his exceptional football season this year. Plant helped lead the varsity team to victory with a tie for the 1st place GVC title along with West Salem High. This young and outstanding athlete also helped the team get the winning result in the first two rounds of state playoffs against Sunset( 28-27) and Sherwood (48-47). However after making it to the quarter- finals, Sprague eventually succumbs to state champions West Linn High School. This season Plant had a .635 pass completion average and threw for a total of 18 touchdowns. Fantastic job Spencer, congrats on the great season!

Dane and Noah helped lead Sprague to a 48-6 victory over McKay HS improving their season record to 8-1. Dane rushed for 220 yards on 16 carries scoring three touchdowns while Noah gained 179 yards on only 7 carries scoring twice including a 90 yard rushing touchdown. On the season, McKinney has gained 1228 yards (9.3 yds/carry) with 23 touchdowns and Mellen has rushed for 841 yards (9.9 yds/carry) scoring 13 touchdowns.

Senior football player, Kyle Rosenau, has been nominated for this weeks Athlete of the Week! Rosenau graded out at 91% for the defensive line in a 56-0 shotout over North Salem last week. Varsity head coach, Jay Minyard, adds “he has been a staple along the defensive front all season and was a huge contributor in the Oly’s first shut out in 4 years.” Great job Kyle, keep up the fantastic work!
Senior volleyball player, Kiersten Karp, has been nominated for Athlete of the Week! At their tournament in Glencoe, Kiersten had 12 kills hitting a .458 hitting percentage and added team high 9 blocks for the day. In addition during their game against McMinnville last week, she had 4 kills hitting a .364 and team high 2 blocks. Lastly, in the teams 5 set match with West Salem, Kiersten hit 5 kills with a .417 percentage and adding 3 blocks as well. Congratulations Kiersten, keep up the great work!
Junior on the varsity volleyball team, Lindsey Grossman, is being nominated for Athlete of the Week! This outstanding outside hitter took 129 swings that resulted in 42 kills last weekend at their tournament. In addition she also had 35 digs, 2 blocks, and 2 aces. She is currently hitting a .220 on the season with 240 kills, which averages to about 3.48 kills per set. Congratulations Lindsey!
Tanner Sorensen, senior on the varsity football team, has also been nominated for Athlete of the Week for his amazing performance these past few weeks. This two year starter set a single game assault point record against McMinnville two weeks ago. He also had an amazing interception against Grants Pass last week resulting in a blowout 53-7 win. Awesome job Tanner, keep up the great work!
This last week Ginger Murnieks has been selected as Athlete of the Week for her outstanding cross country performance at the NW Classic meet in Hillsboro. She won her race along with 4 other races throughout her season thus far. Overall she is ranked #2 in state. Great job Ginger!
We also have football player, Spencer Plant, up for Athlete of the Week. In the heated match between McMinnville High last week, quarterback Spencer was 18-23 for 256 yards passing and also ran for touchdown. Awesome job Spencer!
Our Les Schwab Male Athlete of the Week from Sprague Boys Soccer – Caleb Lounsbury. Caleb, a junior, is a team captain for the Olys, 3rd year as a Varsity member, Maintains a 4.0 GPA, Is on the Sprague leadership team. Last week Sprague travelled to Benson to hold on for a 2-2 tie. Caleb scored both of the Oly’s goals. He has scored many goals and has had several assists this season. He is a leader on and off the field. Very active in club soccer, Caleb was a member of the 2013 and 2014 State Cup Championship teams, on the Far West Regional League Championship team, and was the Far West Regional League top goal scorer in 2014.
