Game Recap

Thursday evening the Olympians faced the McKay Royal Scots in their final game of the season. The Olys got off to a quick start and found the back of the net early. Senior Madison Aften provided the service to junior Summer Steketee that weaved her way through two defenders and beat the goalkeeper in the 1st minute of the match. It didn’t take long for the Olys to get their second. A give and go with freshman Aspen DeConcini set up a great finish by senior Emelie Wilkinson in the 4th minute. In the 27th minute, sophomore Madison Swanson received a ball from freshman Aspen DeConcini where Swanson buried it in the back of the net at the near post, putting the Olys up 3-0. In the 32nd minute, senior Abby McFetridge slotted a through ball to senior Madison Aften where she sent a blistering short past the Royal Scott’s goalkeeper. The Olys continued their domination, and just before halftime, senior Abby McFetridge stepped up to take the free kick in the final minute of the half. She struck a 35 yard ball that dropped in just below the crossbar to send the Olys into halftime 5-0. During halftime, the Olympians recognized the seniors: Madison Aften, Abby McFetridge, Natalia Rodriguez, and Emelie Wilkinson. Throughout the second half, the Olys created several more chances, and in the 76th minute, freshman Aspen DeConcini’s shot was parried back into play where freshman Izzy Bowen finished the opportunity. Earning the shutout for the Olys was junior Ally Smith. “It was a fun evening,” said Coach Plechl. “Anytime you send your seniors away with a performance like that will leave a fond memory of their final game as an Olympian is quite special.” The Olympians end their season 3-8-1 overall and 2-6 in league play.
