Sprague Olympian sophomore Quincy Beyrouty had a strong showing in the opening round of the 2017 6A girls OSAA Golf State Championship.
The two day event is being held at Emerald Valley Golf Club in Creswell, OR.
Beyrouty shot an opening round 81 which puts her in a tie for 15th place. There are 86 participants in the field. Starting on the 10th hole Beyrouty bogeyed her first two holes before making par on the 12th out of a fairway bunker, she followed the sandy par with a birdie out of a greenside bunker on the par 5 13th hole. She alternated bogey’s and par’s the rest of her first nine to make the turn with a 40.
After making par on the first three holes of her second nine Beyrouty hit a rough patch on holes 4, 5 and 6 going double bogey, bogey and double bogey. After a tap in par on the par 5 7th hole Beyrouty hit driver onto the green of the short 271 yard par 4 8th. She just missed the eagle putt, taping in for birdie. She finished her second nine with a 41.
The sophomore is currently two shots outside the top 10, at the end of the two day event the top 10 finishers are awarded 1st team all state honors.
Beyrouty shot 170 (89-81) a year ago as a freshman to finish 28th.
She tees off in the final round tomorrow morning at 9:00AM, she will be starting on the 1st hole.
Defending 6A champion Ellie Slama of South Salem set a state tournament record with an opening round 65, she heads into round 2 with an 11 shot lead.
